Indecisiveness and Leadership do not go along.
I want to take a look at the Leadership ability of being decisive. All great leaders are great decision makers, and this is why people choose to follow them. Leaders are few and far to find, and this is because most people tend to seek for the decisions from other people.
Let us use a common example. Have you ever been with a group of friends and you were trying to decide on where to eat. Most of the people will say “I don’t care”. This completely gives away their decision making ability to the rest to the group. Eventually someone will make a suggestion and everyone will fall into it. This person who makes the decision instantly labels himself/herself as the group leader whether they realize it or not.
If you are looking for being a leader in any kind of atmosphere, then you need to learn to make decisions. Even if you have a hard time coming up with one, any decision is better than none. People will not want to follow you if you have are indecisive. I suggest practicing often in making the decision in your social groups.
Sometimes we come into a group and we want to be the group leader, but someone else wants to be the decision maker. You have to make it your priority to make the decisions first. I’m not saying enter into a heated battle with the other person in what the choice is, but you have to lay out the reason why your decision is better. If you want to be a leader you have to show the people why you deserve to bet the leader. If people find your choice more compelling to them, then they will follow you and not the other person. I do not recommend doing this in a work place with your boss unless you are able to convince him/her with ease.
