Using Mnemonics to Improve your memory.

Most of us have times where our memory fails us. You might forget where you put your keys, or maybe picking up your sister from work just completely slipped your mind. One thing we can be sure of though, is that there is a remedy for this that can work for nearly anyone. It’s called Mnemonics.

Mnemonics is activating more of your senses when trying to remember something in order to make in come to mind much easier. There are different methods you can use. I want to first look at using rhymes to make memorizing things easier. Have you ever heard the saying ” I before E except after C”. It’s easy to remember because its a rhyme. I bet a lot of times when you go to spell receive, you think of that saying so you get it right.  When you go to set your keys down on the table just say something like ” There goes my keys on the table, now in mind it is a label.” You should have a hard time forgetting that one I’m sure. Use your imagination when making your ryhmes and have fun with it as if it were a game.

Next I want to talk about using visual images to improve your memory. When we try to remember a phrase or something someone told us, we usually only remember it in only audio in our heads. Now if you add vision to that phrase or number, then it will become easy to recall.  Let’s say you need to remember to take the garbage out when you get home. Take that phrase and give it life in your mind. Visualize the bag of garbage greeting you when you get home with a plate of food in it’s imaginary hands waiting to serve you. If you make the vision bizarre, it will be even easier to remember since it’s different and harder to forget since it’s weird.

Remembering numbers is fairly simple as well. If you group your numbers together, it will make this process easier for you. If you need to remember the number 4756025512 then you might as well go nuts. But lets think about this for a moment. first break up the numbers into groups. First you have 475, Let’s just say that this represents flight 475 and imagine the plane with the letters 475 on the side of it. Next we have 602. Let’s just say that the 602 street gang has painted their symbol of 602 on the walls of a building. Imagine it vividly in your mind. All you have left is 5512. You can imagine a sign of a city saying population saying 5512, or break it up even further and imagine 5 kittys facing off against 5 evil red eyed raccons with one apple tree and two guys with guns ready to shoot all the animals dead. It’s all up to you how you do it but I bet that number is going to stick in your head with ease now 4756025512.

These are powerful methods for the memory and you can use them to impress your friends to show them how great your memory is or just use it in everyday life to get ahead with ease. However you use it is up to you but I’m sure you will get great use out of it.
